When you’re a kid in school, there are times you get sick, miss a few days. But for one Florida teenager, sick days were something she avoided. In fact, in a remarkable achievement, Rikki Blaylock was honored for having perfect attendance from kindergarten until her senior year of high school was over.
Blaylock, a recent graduate of Ridgeview High School in Orange Park, Fla., was honored at a school board meeting earlier this month for her extraordinary dedication to being at school. “Congratulations to Class of 2024 Rikki Blaylock for her recognition at last night’s School Board meeting. Rikki was Awarded Perfect Attendance for kindergarten to her senior year; truly a phenomenal feat!” Ridgeview High School announced in a Facebook post.
Her dedication and commitment to her learning is inspirational!” the post continued, adding, “#PanthersRISE.”
During the Clay County School Board meeting, Superintendent David Broskie presented Blaylock with a certificate for “Outstanding Attendance.” Ridgeview Panthers Athletics also celebrated her accomplishment on social media, stating, “Congratulations to our student athlete, Rikki Blaylock, for being awarded perfect attendance from K-12 at last night’s school board meeting! Your dedication and commitment are truly inspiring.”
Blaylock not only mastered never missing a day, the teen also ran track, as well as played soccer and volleyball. She had recently been named Athlete of the Week in April for her javelin throw and holds the school record for that, the high school’s athletic department said in their post.
From her first day of kindergarten to her final day as a senior at the high school, Blaylock exemplified what it means to be committed to education, and to her fellow students and teachers. Her story is not just about never missing a day but also about the passion and hard work that it took for her to reach this amazing achievement.
As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I can’t wait to see what this amazing teenage does with such a bright future ahead of her.
