There’s one bus that is causing heads to turn in Canada. Typically, you might expect to see kids heading to and from school each day. But for this bus, instead of children, it’s full of fluffy passengers heading out for a day of fun. And some Puppuccinos from the coffee shop.
The powder-blue Ruff and Puff bus picks up between 10 and 14 dogs each day, and then takes their excited and barking passengers on an adventure. “Once they can hear the bus is coming, a lot of them will wait by the window for me,” said Denzel Morrison, founder of Ruff and Puff. “They’re really happy to see the bus come.”
It all started when Morrison saw a video. “I saw a video of a guy driving a yellow van full of dogs, and it looked kind of like a school bus,” Morrison said, “and I was like, ‘Wow, that does actually look like a great job.’” So he bought a school bus and transformed it into a doggy pickup vehicle, complete with sliding gates to keep the dogs in the seats, and harnesses to secure them safely.
Ruff and Puff brings dogs of all ages and sizes for seasonal based adventures. There are dog parks for year-round fun; water parks with wading pools during the warmer months; and winter time fun in the snow is a must for these doggies. At the end of the day out, Morrison said the dogs are exhausted and ready for a nap. But Morrison and his employee, Becky, add one final surprise for the pups: Puppuccinos.
We get our Puppuccinos, then they’re pretty much in snooze mode,” Morrison said.
Hannah Curlock is one of the people who sends her dog along for an adventure. “We had a new puppy at the time and he was crazy, and I work from home. It was just easier for us to have somebody come to the house and pick him up and take him,” Curlock said.
“He (Bo) sees Denzel and runs to the front door, so then you don’t really have any worries.” All the dogs, Morrison said, seem to love getting onto the mutt motor coach. “The first day is a little iffy, the second day is better,” he said. “Usually by the third day they’re settled in. Once they see all the other dogs acting calm, they’re like, ‘alright, looks like this is ideal.’ So they settle in.”
The bus turns heads when it goes by, with the dogs either staring out the window, or hanging their heads out the window for a blast of air. “Everyone that sees it is so happy,” Morrison said. “Everyone we drive by loves it. I’ve thought about putting cameras on the side of it, to watch people faces, because it’s so funny just watching.
Morrison has been operating Ruff and Puff for nearly two years, and business is booming. So much in fact, he may need to expand. “At the current rate … I might have to get another bus,” he said. “I am thinking about it.” When asked if he can confirm that this might just be the best job in the world, Morrison said it definitely is.
“Yeah, confirmed.” he said. “Confirmed it is a great job. I honestly think it has got to be at least in the top five in the world. It’s awesome.” For a look at these adventurous pups and their bus ride to fun, watch below!
